Marriage with HIV

Seeking a spouse with honesty, wisdom, and trust in Allāh.

︵ وَأَنكِحُوا الْأَيَامَىٰ مِنكُمْ ︶

“And marry the unmarried among you.”

Qur’an 24:32

The door has not closed

Nothing in Islam bars a person from marriage because of an illness. Many Muslims with HIV are happily married, some to a spouse who also has HIV and some to a spouse who does not. With treatment, U=U and PrEP, mixed-status couples live full lives and have children born without HIV.

Honesty first

Tell a potential spouse once things become serious, before families are deeply involved and well before the nikah, so they can agree with full knowledge. Lead with the facts, give them time for questions and istikharah, and involve your wali wisely. For guidance on your own situation, speak to a scholar you trust.

Why a dedicated community helps

On ordinary marriage sites, every promising conversation carries a disclosure still to come. On Muslims with HSV, our private Muslim marriage community, members living with HIV can list it on their profile, so everyone understands from the first hello.

We pray that Allāh grants you ease, and blesses you with a righteous and understanding spouse.
